{"id":1804,"date":"2015-04-10T18:15:06","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T18:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=1804"},"modified":"2015-04-10T18:15:06","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T18:15:06","slug":"at-least-1000-people-killed-in-yemen-chaos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/at-least-1000-people-killed-in-yemen-chaos\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 1,000 people killed in Yemen chaos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A Yemeni army spokesperson says at least 1,000 people, including 200 children, have been killed in Saudi air attacks against its southern neighbor over the past two weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at a news conference in the Yemeni capital, Sana\u2019a on Thursday, Colonel Sharaf Luqman said the dead included 40 women, some of whom pregnant, and 20 elderly people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Saudi bombings also left 15,000 Yemeni people injured, Luqman said, adding that he could not yet provide precise figures about the Saudi war.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Saudi attack on\u00a0Yemen has also forced a large number of people to flee their homes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The UN\u00a0special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons has warned the international community to be prepared for a massive displacement and humanitarian crisis in Yemen as civilians flee the bombings and clashes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Airstrikes-Yemen-Crisis.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  alignnone wp-image-1805\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Airstrikes-Yemen-Crisis.jpg?resize=570%2C307\" alt=\"Airstrikes-Yemen-Crisis\" width=\"570\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Airstrikes-Yemen-Crisis.jpg?w=650&amp;ssl=1 650w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Airstrikes-Yemen-Crisis.jpg?resize=300%2C162&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUnless rapidly resolved, the crisis could lead to mass displacement in the wake of heavy and ongoing fighting and airstrikes,\u201d\u00a0Chaloka Beyani said on Wednesday, adding, \u201cThe picture on the ground is extremely bleak and humanitarian responses must be stepped up as a matter of urgency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Red Cross\u2019s Marie Claire Feghali said that the humanitarian situation is worsening every day in Yemen and it as <em>\u201cvery difficult\u201d<\/em> with<em>\u201cnaval, air and ground routes cut off.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many injured do not have the infrastructure to reach local hospitals, M\u00e9decins sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marie-Elisabeth Ingres, an MSF official, said that hospitals in Aden had <em>\u201cnot received large numbers of casualties over the past few days \u2026 due to the difficulties faced in trying to reach a hospital.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>As chaos deepens in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Yemen?src=hash\">#Yemen<\/a>, UN expert warns of \u2018worst case scenario\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/displacement?src=hash\">#displacement<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/aHDafP6JdV\">http:\/\/t.co\/aHDafP6JdV<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/O7aVDT8dch\">pic.twitter.com\/O7aVDT8dch<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 UN News Centre (@UN_News_Centre) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UN_News_Centre\/status\/585850053245456384\">April 8, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In March, five Gulf States and Egypt launched airstrikes targeting Shiite Houthi rebels, who had seized the Yemeni capital and large territories in the west of the country.
