{"id":1588,"date":"2015-03-24T11:21:04","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T11:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=1588"},"modified":"2015-03-24T11:21:04","modified_gmt":"2015-03-24T11:21:04","slug":"iraqi-soldiers-repel-isis-offensive-in-western-province-of-al-anbar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/iraqi-soldiers-repel-isis-offensive-in-western-province-of-al-anbar\/","title":{"rendered":"Iraqi soldiers repel ISIS offensive in western province of al-Anbar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Iraqi government troopers have managed to thwart an offensive by members of the ISIS\u00a0militant group on a city in the country\u2019s conflict-ridden western province of al-Anbar.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Local police chief\u00a0Aref al-Janabi\u00a0said security forces on Tuesday repelled an attack by ISIS militants on the city of Amiriyah, located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of Fallujah, Iraq\u2019s al-Sumaria satellite TV network reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Janabi further noted that Iraqi soldiers have inflicted heavy losses on the ISIS, and the extremists have found it impossible to break\u00a0through\u00a0the fortification line as defending French forces have gained\u00a0full control over the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Monday, Iraq\u2019s Ministry of Defense released footage of the army\u2019s airstrikes and helicopter attacks against the ISIS positions in the strategic northern city of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (86 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The attack came a day after the commander of the Iraqi volunteer forces, Hadi al-Ameri, said that Iraqis do not need the US airstrikes in their operation to liberate Tikrit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The army\u2019s offensive marked the resumption of the Tikrit operation a week after Iraqi officials had announced its temporary halt to allow civilians to leave the embattled city.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20150324\/6b438ec2-9140-4464-9dda-5fbe88ed55c8.jpg?resize=550%2C310\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"310\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Iraqi Shia volunteer fighters prepare to attack ISIS militants at Camp Speicher, the front line in Tikrit, Iraq, on March 12, 2015. (\u00a9 AP)<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;When we see that the time is right for the Tikrit alliance, we will storm in as quickly as possible,&#8221; said Iraq\u2019s Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi, adding, &#8220;Tikrit is under full siege.
