{"id":1435,"date":"2015-03-12T13:58:18","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T13:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5917.temp.domains\/~iriacom\/\/news\/?p=1435"},"modified":"2015-03-12T13:58:18","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T13:58:18","slug":"us-president-obama-extends-bans-against-iran-for-another-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/us-president-obama-extends-bans-against-iran-for-another-year\/","title":{"rendered":"US President Obama extends bans against Iran for another year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>US President Barack Obama has extended Washington\u2019s decades-old &#8220;state of emergency&#8221; with respect to Iran that keeps sanctions against the Islamic Republic in place for one more year.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Wednesday, Obama informed Capitol Hill\u00a0that he was continuing the &#8220;state of emergency&#8221; against Iran because the crisis in Tehran-Washington relations \u201chas not been resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u200bThe state of emergency has been in place since 1979 when Tehran and Washington severed\u00a0diplomatic ties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026certain actions and policies of the government of Iran continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,\u201d Obama claimed\u00a0in a notice to Congress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor these reasons, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared with respect to Iran and to maintain in force comprehensive sanctions,\u201d Obama wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is while\u00a0Obama, in the same letter,\u00a0spoke of the progress made in the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group &#8211;\u00a0the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia,\u00a0China and\u00a0France plus\u00a0Germany\u00a0&#8211; over Tehran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis marks the first time in a decade that Iran has agreed to take, and has taken, specific actions that stop the advance and roll back key elements of its nuclear program,\u201d he said, in reference to the 2013 interim deal signed between Iran and the P5+1 group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under the six-month deal, which took effect on January 20, 2014, sanctions against Iran were partially suspended while Iran scaled back its nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">US presidents have declared about 53 states of emergency since Congress passed the National Emergencies Act in 1976.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The state of emergency forms the basis for most US sanctions against Iran. This comes at the time when Tehran and the P5+1 are seeking to seal a comprehensive nuclear deal by July 1.
