China\u2019s State Consular, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was the first between the two since Burns assumed his position as an ambassador of the U.S. in China. During the meeting, Wang Yi stressed that the both U.S. and China must \u201ccoexist peacefully, and forge win-win cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNeither China nor the US can change the other, the US should stop trying to deal with China from a position of strength and stop trying to suppress and contain China’s development,\u201d Wang said during the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese foreign minister said that \u201cthe international community generally looks forward to the stable development of the China-US relations.\u201d Wang further added that he hopes Burns can be a bridge and a link between China and the U.S. as the ambassador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burns in return said that the U.S. has an open door policy and looks forward to stabilizing the relations between China and U.S., as tensions between the countries rose to maximum after the U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August this year. A trip that upset the Chinese administration to the core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burns was appointed the U.S. ambassador to China only a few months ago and he assumed his duties only a few weeks before the 20th CPC National Congress.\u00a0His meeting with China\u2019s top diplomat was aimed at conveying the Chinese government\u2019s attitude towards the U.S., especially after the latest CPC national congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Wang also briefed Burns on the major achievements and significance of the 20th CPC National Congress. In response, Burns said that he paid great attention to the Chinese Congress and carefully studied its report. The Chinese side’s introduction helped deepen the United States’ understanding of the report, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two sides agreed to continue communication with each other in order to mitigate misunderstandings and promote cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week China\u2019s national committee on U.S.-China relations arranged a Gala Dinner with substantial success. China\u2019s President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the annual Gala Dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChina stands ready to work with the US to find the right way to get along with each other in the new era on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, which will benefit not only the two countries but also the whole world,\u201d Xi said in his congratulatory remarks. U.S. President Joe Biden also sent a congratulatory message to the Gala Dinner of the committee earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
