Both were joined by their foreign ministers Japan&#8217;s Yoshimasa Hayashi and India&#8217;s Subrahmanyam Jaishankar later in the day for 2+2 security talks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe two ministers agreed that the early conduct of the inaugural fighter exercise will pave the way for much greater cooperation and interoperability between the air forces of the two countries,\u201d\u00a0India&#8217;s defense ministry said in a statement. India&#8217;s defense minister also invited Japanese industries to invest in India&#8217;s defense corridors.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his statement after the India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Tokyo, Indian defense minister said that \u201cOur Special Strategic and Global Partnership reflects interests and increasingly our footprint that extend well beyond the immediate region.\u201d\u00a0He added that India and Japan are keen to to take forward the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting comes when Russia is holding a major multinational military exercise with China and India participating. Tokyo has protested against the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ir-ia.com\/news\/russia-kicks-off-vostok-2022-military-exercise-with-china-and-regional-allies\/\"><span style=\"color:#ac0707\" class=\"has-inline-color\">military exercise Vostok-2022<\/span><\/a> on two of four Russian-held islands claimed by Japan. (Image Credit: Indian Defense Minister\/Twitter @rajnathsingh)<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joint military drills and tech cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Japan agreed to step up joint military drills and cooperation in the development and transfer of military equipment and technology with India, according to statement by Japanese Defense Ministry. \u201cThe ministers welcomed the progress being made in coordination for the first Japan-India joint fighter aircraft exercise with a view to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.\u201d The two countries are also discussing joint development of unmanned ground vehicle technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two sides welcomed the improving interoperability through such initiatives as the implementation of the Agreement Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between the armed forces of Japan and India during bilateral training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two ministers emphasized the need for all countries to seek peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law without the use of force, threat or any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Japan also wants to reaffirm India\u2019s support in promoting a \u201cfree and open Indo-Pacific vision\u201d that Japan promotes with the United States as part of the Quad framework that also includes Australia as a counter to China\u2019s assertiveness in the region.
